National Walk Out
* The ACHS ASB organized a walkout on Wednesday, March 14th at 10:00am. This coincided with the National Walk Out organized by the Parkland, Florida student group. Our ASB felt that students as a group should support the walk-out that promoted remembrance and respect for the 17 victims. Students who chose to participate walked to the stadium at 10:00am. The names and biographies of the 17 victims were read aloud, followed by 17 seconds of silence. Then an additional moment of silence was held for ALL the victims of school shootings. Students were back in class before 10:30am.
* During lunchtime there were 17 empty desks set up in the quad with the bio and profile of each victim.
* Also during lunchtime Art teacher, Ms. Donaldson, graciously donated postcards for our students to write messages to either Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School or our government officials, whatever moved them. These were available on tables in the quad, along with a choice of addresses to send them to.

Junior State of America
Our JSA team, under the direction of Shawn Near, recently participated in their Winter Congress. It was held at the Woodland Hills Marriott. There, the students wrote bills, voted on them, and decided what would become laws. This convention focuses on “teaching negotiation, compromise, and persuasive writing as well as giving students experience writing a bill and actively participating as it makes its way through a simulated Congress.” Congratulations are in order to ACHS’ Justin Lieb for earning the Best Speaker Award at the conference.
