About the Athletics Department
Mike Smith, Athletic Director
After graduating from T.O. High School (an OUHSD school at the time), Mike smith graduated from California State University, Northridge in 1975. He has been teaching English and coaching at ACHS since 1978. He was honored as ACHS Teacher of the year in 1981 and Teacher of the Semester for the fall of 1983. Coach Smith has served as Head Boys Cross Country Coach for the past twenty-one years. His teams have won nine varsity league championships, four county championships, and he led the 1989 team to a CIF and State Championship. That team was named the #1 team in the nation. He has coached numerous other league and county championship teams on the lower levels. He has also served as head track, baseball and girls' basketball coach. Mike Smith earned the position of ACHS's Athletic Director in May of 2001. He and his wife Christine live in Camarillo with their four children.
ACHS Athletics Mission Statement
Camarillo High School's athletic program strives to be a learning environment where students develop the work ethic, citizenship, and team building skills necessary for success in all aspects of their adult lives.
Athletics Policies
Student-athletes at Camarillo High School must be academically eligible with a GPA of at least 2.0 and passing at least 20 semester credits. They must be well-behaved at all times and realize that athletic participation is a privilege, not a right. They are to be always respectful to teachers, coaches, officials, opponents, and classmates. In addition, Camarillo High School's student-athletes are expected to be drug and alcohol free.

Camarillo High School enthusiastically supports the CIF's emphasis on sportsmanship through the "Pursuing Victory with Honor" program. The programs' philosophy is founded in fairness, caring, honesty, citizenship, respect, and trustworthiness.
