Student Services assists with college preparation and post-secondary planning.

  1. Career Exploration
    • MAGIC CAMP - "Silly boys, M.A.G.I.C Camp is for girls!" Mentoring A Girl In Construction is a 1 week program opportunity during the summer. This program, in the fields of Construction, helps girls understand that construction can be a successful career choice for women. Careers may include but are not limited to: framing, tiling, plumbing, electrical, welding, painting and heavy equipment operation. Hands on and guest speakers in their fields, add to the FUN of this program. Girls in 10th-11th grade who have not been in the program before, or 12th grade girls who attended the year prior, qualify to apply for this 1 week commitment.     • OUHSD Annual Career Fair is held in March every year, during school hours Bus departs from ACHS, takes students to Oxnard Performing Arts Center for approx. 1 hour, then returns. Students explore different careers, speaking with community professionals in approx. 115 various career pathways.

  18. Work Permits
    1. Obtain a green work permit application form (ACHS front office or college & Career Center Rm. C-4), ages 14-18yrs. old.
    2. Complete the top & side of the application form (must have social security number), have your new employer fill out the middle section (must have workman's comp. info) including signature, have a parent or guardian sign & date the bottom of the application.
    3. Return completed form to Mrs. Prentice in Rm. C-4 College & Career Center for processing.
    4. Actual permit will be available for pick up 24 hours after form is turned in (by lunch the following day).
  19. Exploratory / Work Experience
    1. The Work Experience Program is for juniors and seniors who have the work experience teacher's approval for the job, may earn 5 or 10 elective credits per semester; must have a minimum 2.0 GPA(required for the work permit). Must work a minimum of 8 hours per week for 5 credits or a minimum of 15 hours per week for 10 credits. *See Mrs. Arenas-Magie Rm B3A Work Experience Teacher or Mrs. Prentice Rm. C-4 College & Career Center Tech. or your school counselor for more details.
    2. The Fire Cadet Program is for juniors and seniors who would like to explore the field of fire technology. There are many learning activities at a fire station including ride-alongs with the firefighters. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to participate. Students can earn 5 elective credits per semester (maximum of 2 semesters). Students are interviewed and selected by the fire department's coordinator, then assigned to a local fire station. See Mrs. Arenas-Magie Rm. B3A for details.

  6. ASVAB: ASVAB is College & Career assessment for Juniors & Seniors. It is the same skills, cognitive evaluation, personality and academic assessment that the military uses. This IS NOT a recruiting assessment. All students are required to put the school's address and phone number on the paperwork - NOT their personal ones. The code on the assessment also is marked "No military recruiter contact". This insures that the student can feel comfortable in finding out their career scores without fear of being contacted by the military.
