What is WASC?

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is an accrediting association for schools in California and Hawaii. WASC accredits schools based on a set of standards and criteria that measure the quality of education being provided. The accreditation process is a collaborative one, involving a self-study by the school, a visit by a team of WASC representatives, and a final decision by the WASC Accrediting Commission.

ACHS engaged in the WASC process in a comprehensive way. The WASC Leadership Team (WLT) created an automation to gather evidence for the self-study report. Chapter 2 of the report was written using a data analysis process called Data Bytes, in which home groups analyzed data and reported their findings. Chapter 3 was written through a process of focus groups, surveys, and data analysis. ACHS also implemented a visual representation of the WASC process to keep teachers informed of the progress. Each department engaged in data collection, analysis, and discussion around the established WASC theme.
