Self-Study Coordinator

An alumnus of Adolfo Camarillo High School, John Gonzalez has been teaching at ACHS for 16 years. He is the Science Co-Department Chair and teaches AP Chemistry, Chemistry in the Earth System, and AP Environmental Science.  He is also the Head Boys Golf Coach.

Mr. Gonzalez holds several data and technology leadership roles on campus and serves as the WASC Self-Study Coordinator. He is interested in providing teachers and campus leaders with seamless, low-friction access to data in order to generate meaningful insights about students, their learning, and ways to integrate new learning strategies to improve practice.

In his classroom, Mr. Gonzalez is currently working on two main strands of improved practice: 1) grading practices and how simple changes to assessment structure can provide a more equitable learning environment for students, and 2) improved 3-D instruction and assessment while moving toward a standards-based model.

Mr. Gonzalez and his wife, Dr. Lorna Gonzalez, co-wrote a chapter in the online book entitled: What PreK-12 Teachers Should Know About Educational Technology in 2023: A Research-to-Practice Anthology, published in July 2023.  The title of their chapter is "Classrooms with and without walls: Intentionally blending in-person and virtual learning spaces” (437-444).
